Children’s Centres

…each has its own varied programme of activities…

Fayland Children’s Centre

Very well designed, run and maintained. Friendly, thoughtful provision with good drop-in sessions and support for all-comers. Clean change facilities and great toys. Regularly runs courses from first aid to baby yoga.

Fayland Avenue, London SW16

Garratt Park Children’s Centre (Earlsfield)

Great inner sensory room primarily of interest for babies (see “Further Afield”) and a good range of toys in the main Centre for older children. Easily accessible loos and change facilities. Pleasant outside area in summer with water toys and lots of trikes/cars etc. Centre is inside Garratt Park, which has good baby swings, and being in the park helps work a trip to the Centre alongside naps and meals.

Garratt Park, Siward Road, London SW17 0LA

Fransiscan Children’s Centre

Small and friendly. Varied programme (published on noticeboard outside Centre) including breastfeeding support drop-in sessions, bump to 15 months drop-in play sessions, stay-and-play drop-in sessions including sessions specfically for dads, grandparents and childminders, and behaviour/sleep/weaning support groups.

Franciscan Primary School, 221 Franciscan Road, SW17 8HQ

Tooting Triangle Children’s Centre (now also called Fayland Triangle)

Good outdoor space and lots of toys. Near to a playground and large well-maintained sandpit (although bring your own “utensils” for playing in the sand as none provided).

Tooting Triangle, Emmanuel Road, SW12

Hillbrook Children’s Centre

Clean, friendly and well organised. Popular, so get there ahead of any session you plan to attend to avoid disappointment. Also offers courses and specific drop-in sessions.

Hillbrook Primary School, Hillbrook Road, SW17 8SG

Smallwood Children’s Centre

Friendly and welcoming children’s centre with outdoor playground and plenty of activities.

Balham Nursery and Children’s Centre

Part of Tooting locality despite Balham site. Fully-functioning children’s centre alongside nursery provision. Not yet reviewed but received ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted report for 2009/2010 and has helpful website, so likely to be worth a visit.
