Days Out Feature

Our Favourite Farms

Now the weather’s improving (fingers crossed) it’s the perfect time to get out and explore. Farms are a great way for our Tooting babes to meet some animals (other than the foxes!). Many of the farms have hands-on activities and workshops, some have entire playgrounds, trampolines and more!  It’s the perfect opportunity to get to see how the farms are run, get up close and personal with the cute creatures and learn how they’re kept happy. It’s also a great way to spend a day. Below we’ve rounded up a selection that we like the best. If you think we’ve missed a farm and want it added to the list then please Get In Touch

LocationDeen City Farm, 39 Windsor Ave, London SW19 2RR, UK
Opening times10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Sunday (Closed Mondays including Bank Holiday Mondays)

Deen City Farm is our closest farm – just a stones throw from Tooting on the edge of Colliers Wood. It’s a small farm with horses, sheep, cows and goats and an alpaca. There are also rabbits, chickens and birds. You can either park right by the farm or walk over from Morden Hall Park. There’s a small cafe and the whole farm is easily accessed with buggies.

LocationCapel Manor College, Crystal Palace Park Farm, Ledrington Road, SE19 2BS
Opening timesMonday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: 12.00 -4.00pm, Wednesday: CLOSED

This is a farm that focuses on providing an educational experience. It caters for local schools and even has its own educational officer. At Crystal Palace Park Farm there are kunekune pigs, alpacas, goats and Shetland ponies, as well as smaller animals. Children are always fascinated by the reptile room, too. In the afternoons, you can often handle the smaller animals, if there’s a free member of staff around.

One of the oldest city farms, Vauxhall City Farm prides itself on being a little bit of countryside right in the heart of London. There are a vast array of animals to meet here including horses, alpacas, goats, pigs, sheep as well as rabbits, ducks etc. There’s an onsite cafe which is open 7 days a week and babychanging facilities. There’s also a buggy park area provided.

Bocketts is a working family farm in Surrey. It is also so much more. This place, although on the pricier side, is jam packed with things to do. You could easily spend a day here (and still not see everything – if you’re like us we got stuck in the indoor softplay the first time we went!). Watch the pig race, take a pony ride, hop on board the tractor and trailer, cuddle cute rabbits and feed the farm animals. There are always baby animals to see including lambs, kids, piglets and chicks. There are also trampolines, giant slides, a bouncy pillow, 2 large indoor play barns and outdoor adventure trails. And there’s a cafe, baby change and loads of space for buggies.

Again if you’re looking for more than just a farm, Hobbledown, like Bocketts has attractions galore! From jumping pillows to imaginative indoor play, animal handling and more. Scale wooden towers, explore underground tunnels and aerial walkways and climb to your heart’s content. There’s also zorbing and high ropes. Hobbledown is definitely more theme park than your classic farm. A great (but expensive day out). Be sure to get there early to avoid the queues!

If you’re after a less full-on experience than Hobbledown and Bocketts then Godstone is the perfect choice. Smaller and more intimate, it feels more like a real farm. This is definitely a favourite of ours! Whether you are visiting for the whole day or just a few hours, there is loads to do and see. Whether is’s petting the horses, watching the pig races or feeding the goats there are some wonderful animal encounters to be had. You can also handle rabbits and chickens. If you love to run around and play, there’s a fantastic outdoor play area with fun things to swing, climb and balance on, loads of sandpits, plus lots of ride on toys. There’s also some great indoor play areas for when the weather’s bad.
